No more smartphones? Cell phone sales without access to the Internet or social networks are on the rise

No more smartphones Cell phone sales without access to the Internet or social networks are on the rise

The phones that revolutionized communication between the 1990s and the early years of this century are back. Although talking without a cable was innovative at the time, with the advent of smartphones and social networks, the popularity of these cell phones – those without cameras, HD screens, or Internet access – was declining.

However, in a world where social media is playing an increasingly important role, some people have opted to move away from smartphones and back to old phones.

The reason we now return to what people call "dumbphones" (as opposed to smartphones) is that many people choose to disconnect from the digital world offered by smartphones.

Data that would confirm the increase in sales of older cell phones is that Google searches for this type of production increased by 89% between 2018 and the previous year. Furthermore, UK statistics show that one in ten users use a "dumb phone".

As per last year's numbers, there has been an increase in sales of these devices globally, and around 1,000 million original cell phones were sold in 2021. This represents a big change in the percentage of sales, as in 2019 it was determined that they were sold around 400. Million phones.

The return of these mobile phones is concerned with the quest for digital health in everyday life. Users who use basic phones tend to be less dependent on their smartphones and be more attentive when doing daily activities, such as socializing or working.

The BBC made a report in which people who chose to go back to old cell phones shared their experiences. One user said, "It wasn't until I bought 'Brick' that I didn't realize how much a smartphone was occupying my life."

In other answers, people returning to "dumbphones" admit that they did so to improve their productivity and their free time. Other users argued that they reverted to the original cell phone because of their size and battery life, or because of nostalgia. Also, many parents opted to disconnect these phones from the network and connect with their kids.
